Musician Judith Kate Friedman came to San Francisco’s Jewish Home in the late 1990s as a songwriter-in-residence. She brought her Songwriting Works project to the Jewish Home and worked with over 200 elder residents with physical and mental frailties. She taught them to write their own songs and perform them. Judith worked with a core group of residents on a CD project called Island on a Hill. The CD was released in 2002. KALW producer JoAnn Mar visited the Jewish Home in December 2003, as residents were rehearsing and getting ready for their annual Hanukkah celebration.
